Experienced Practitioner / RPL Pathway

Already trained in microneedling or cosmetic skin needling and currently working as a qualified practitioner?

BF Academy offers an Experienced Practitioner / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway for learners who already hold relevant skin needling training and have practical industry experience but would now like to achieve the regulated VTCT (ITEC) Level 4 Certificate in Skin Needling.

This pathway recognises that an experienced practitioner may already possess some of the knowledge and practical skills covered within the Level 4 qualification. Before enrolment, we will review your existing qualifications, previous training, treatment experience and supporting evidence. An initial skills assessment and gap analysis will then be completed to determine which areas of the VTCT qualification you can already demonstrate and which areas require additional training, practical evidence or assessment.

The Level 4 qualification includes advanced consultation, advanced skin assessment, principles of non-medical aesthetic therapies and the safe provision of cosmetic skin needling treatments.

How the Experienced Practitioner Route Works

Rather than repeating training you can already competently demonstrate, your programme will be individually structured around your existing experience. You may attend BF Academy for selected theory sessions, practical standardisation, supervised treatments, portfolio support, case-study assessment, mock examination preparation and any additional training identified during your initial assessment.

Between academy sessions, learners may complete appropriate theory study, assignments, portfolio documentation and examination preparation independently. However, practical case-study evidence used towards the qualification must meet VTCT assessment requirements and be appropriately supervised and assessed.

Course Duration

The Experienced Practitioner pathway can reduce the amount of repeated teaching required, but it cannot remove the awarding body’s qualification requirements.

Learners must remain registered and on programme for a minimum of 14 weeks before being entered for the external theory and practical examinations. 

What Will I Need to Provide?

Applicants for the Experienced Practitioner pathway should provide evidence of their existing training and experience. This may include previous microneedling or skin needling certificates, relevant beauty or skin qualifications, Anatomy & Physiology qualifications, course syllabuses, treatment records, consultation forms, case studies, before-and-after photographs and evidence of current professional practice.

Previous certificates do not automatically provide exemption from the Level 4 qualification. Your evidence must first be reviewed to determine whether it meets the relevant VTCT requirements.

Experienced Practitioner Course Fee

RPL / Experienced Practitioner Route: £1,800

Our Experienced Practitioner pathway is offered at a fixed course fee of £1,800 for practitioners who already hold previous skin needling or microneedling training and can provide evidence of relevant practical experience.

The course fee includes your initial qualification review and gap assessment, required Level 4 training, practical assessment, portfolio and assignment support, case-study guidance, examination preparation and VTCT (ITEC) registration and assessment requirements.

This pathway is designed to avoid unnecessary repetition of training while ensuring each learner completes the required elements of the VTCT (ITEC) Level 4 Certificate in Skin Needling.
